Emigrant Direct Savings Account now at 4.65% APY

Emigrant Direct has adjusted their rate on the high yield savings account to 4.65%. As the rest of the banks have adjusted their rates lower as well, Emigrant is now offering a very attractive yield especially compared to HSBC Direct (4.25%) and ING Direct (4.10%).

New Log-In process for EmigrantDirect Account

Dear Customer,

Our new login process adds an additional layer of security to protect your American Dream account(s).

To begin the new login process:

You will be asked to complete a one-time enrollment during which you will select an image and create a unique phrase or description to accompany the image.
To use the new login process:

You will see your selected image and phrase every time you log in from your registered computer so you will know immediately that the site is indeed EmigrantDirect.com and it is safe to enter your password.
You may register as many computers as you like, but we suggest that you only register computers that are private, such as your home computer.
Federal guidelines require that all internet banks implement this procedure by the end of the year and your account will be selected for enrollment within the next 30 days.

Please do not reply to this e-mail as your reply will go to an unmonitored mailbox. If you have any questions, you may send a message from your secure Message Center once you are logged on, or call Customer Service at 1-800-836-1997, seven days a week, 8:00 AM – 11:30 PM ET.

EmigrantDirect's Savings Rate is Decreasing

Just got notice:

EmigrantDirect's savings rate was decreased effective September 30, 2006 to 5.05% APY.

Interesting. The rate wars are calming down a bit. Might be a good time to start locking in longer term rates.

Emigrant Direct Savings Account now at 5.15% APY

Emigrant Direct's Online Savings Account has boosted its rate to 5.15% APY as of July 28th, 2006. This rate is much higher than ING Direct Savings Account (4.35%). I have most of my short term savings and 0% Balance Transfers in my Emigrant Direct savings account.

EmigrantDirect has also launched a new user interface for its web site. I will post additional info once I have tried it out.

EmigrantDirect Savings Account now at 5.00% APY

EmigrantDirect's Online Savings Account has boosted its rate to 5.00% APY as of July 4th, 2006. This rate is mcuh higher than ING Direct Savings Account (4.35%). I have most of my short term savings and 0% Balance Transfers in my Emigrant Direct savings account.

I also received word that EmigrantDirect is launching a new user interface for its web site. I would say currently the biggest drawback to EmigrantDirect is the crude (but functional) web site design, so if the new web site design is similar to ING Direct or HSBC Direct then all the more reason to open an account for the higher interest rate.
